Pisco Sour

I didn’t forget about y’all! It’s just been busy and good all around. Hoping the same for everyone out there reading this. So here’s a cocktail for you, to bring us back together.

We stumbled across the Pisco Sour while watching Zane Lamprey’s Three Sheets (a hilarious show from the early years of our courtship). It looked good, so we googled a few recipes and put something together. Years later, we still think of this as a refreshing summer staple.

Pisco isn’t something you run into every day, but it’s worth the hunt. It’s considered a brandy, but un-aged so the spirit is clear.

Tasting notes: The Pisco on its own smells a bit like a nice blanco tequila; sweet, a little floral, a little pear. But on taste, it’s more of a tequila with the characteristics of a nice dry European white wine. Earthy, smooth, a touch sweet and floral. The cocktail itself carries some of those same characteristics, but is very light and refreshing.

The Breakfast of Champions!

Ok….so it’s not Wheaties. It’s far better! But given the opening ceremonies this evening,  I thought I should do a post somehow relate to the Olympics. So….it was our breakfast and we felt like champions afterward. Just like Bruce Jenner did after eating his bowl of Wheaties and winning his Olympic medals. It works for me. Thus the brie, asparagus, crab cake, egg white, ciabatta baguette breakfast sandwich!

Toast a chunk of ciabatta baguette and layer it with 2 slices of brie. Let them melt slightly while you are pan searing your crab crakes (made with Wegmans crab meat stuffing!), and making your thin egg white omelette. (I mix in half a yoke for color.) Layer on top of the brie when done, top with a few steamed asparagus tips and sprinkle with fresh thyme.  Three layers of protein and 6 layers of flavorful goodness to help you win the next decathalon! Or at least to sit and watch the Olympic athletes try…..Enjoy!

The name and the sandwich are quite a mouthful!
